In 2025, Generation1.ca CEO Arundati Dandapani announced the launch of AfroRise2050, a fellowship of movers, arrivers, and diaspora storytellers committed to connecting the lived realities of African immigrants to their homelands, the continent, and the wider world. As Generation1.ca marked its 10th anniversary, the vision for our Dreams for Africa anthology emerged from a deeper recognition of the uneven realities facing different immigrant diaspora communities, especially immigrants of colour, who continue to confront systemic barriers, bias and discrimination at work, in their professions, and in everyday life.
As a leading frontier innovator organization, one of our enduring goals has been to build a stronger, healthier ecosystem of support that elevates immigrant voices, deepens knowledge and cultural exchange, and advances career and professional outcomes through learning, upskilling, and community. This Generation1.ca initiative is proudly endorsed and promoted by our partners in Africa at the Pan African Chamber of Commerce, Sankofa University, Women Entrepreneurship Centre, Flux Trends.
We are proud to unveil the first edition of Our Dreams for Africa anthology: a bold reflection of the perspectives, ambitions, talent, and energy of some of our most inspiring diaspora members, and of a more confident, Africa-centred future they are helping to shape.
Watch at the end of the page for the full booklet. Thank you to all our contributors including our storytellers and Dakisha Locklear for brainstorming the cover design together with our CEO, and Samantha Diaz for her help with booklet design execution.
