Over the weekend, Generation1.ca is hosting a collaborative session for our Dreams for Africa project from Generation1.ca’s AfroRise Fellowship towards AfroFutures2050, gathering stories, dreams, and feedback from participants. Sessions are being documented with each participant sharing their “One Dream for Africa.” These contributions, tagged by themes and enriched with notes, images, and videos, forms the basis of the upcoming Dreams for Africa Anthology, capturing both the visions and the collective dialogue behind them to deepen diasporic ties of immigrants with the African continent and have a say in shaping its futures.
This work also reflects broader demographic shifts shaping North America’s future and diaspora ties back to their homelands. In Canada, South Asian, Chinese, and Black communities currently make up the top three racialized immigrant groups, but by 2040, Black immigrants are projected to surpass Chinese immigrants in number. In the US, Black immigrants are expected to make up nearly 10% of the total population by 2065, marking a significant demographic and cultural shift.
