Shape the Future of Work and Skills: Why Your Organization Should Join our Career Fairs and Case Competitions

The Generation1.ca Fall 2024 Virtual Insights Career Fair and Case Competition, led by founder and CEO Arundati Dandapani, brought together a dynamic community of innovators, jobseekers, and industry leaders on September 27, 2024, under the powerful theme: “Data Harmonization: Innovating with Cybersecurity, Equity, and Sustainable Insights.”

This year’s event celebrated responsible data use, environmental consciousness, and ethical business practices, attracting participants from diverse industries like business, marketing, technology, and analytics. The day kicked off with an interactive Future of Skills panel (10–11 am), where the career fair theme along with panelists’ experiences and insights from Generation1.ca’s annual global skills study helped shape discussions on the future of work, continuing to build on the foundation of our Future Ready Innovators credential.

This event also marked the final public appearance of our industry employer SOMRA’s esteemed Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Nasir Khan, who passed exactly away two months later on November 27. His legacy continues with Shahryar Khan, who will continue supporting our career fairs and strategic partnership.

Following the panel, virtual booths and networking lounges buzzed with activity as jobseekers connected with leading companies spotlighting their missions, cultures, and career opportunities. You can learn more about them and the full day here.

A standout moment of the day was the Case Competition, where teams tackled real-world challenges requiring collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Guided by the event’s theme, participants delivered innovative, data-driven solutions while addressing cybersecurity, ethics, and sustainability. These presentations lauded for their practicality, demonstrated immediate industry application potential, according to our Career Champion Sponsor Bank of Canada’s Masoud Nasari.

Participants left with practical knowledge of evolving industry needs, from cybersecurity safeguards to equitable and sustainable initiatives designed for diverse communities. For jobseekers, the event facilitated meaningful connections with potential employers, while companies gained access to North America’s most promising global talent.

Looking ahead, Generation1.ca is building on this momentum of successes for the past ten editions with its 2025 Spring Career Fair and Case Competition, themed “Climate, Tech, and Governance: Building Intelligent Networks & Ecosystems.” Resources, recaps, and updates can be found by searching for “Career Fair” on the Generation1.ca website.
