On April 25, 2025, Generation1.ca proudly hosted our Spring Virtual Career Fair and Case Competition, uniting global employers, educators, industry mentors, and emerging talent under the powerful theme centered on “Climate, Tech, and Governance” pathways to a data-driven future. Timely that all this also falls during the International Market Research Week, a celebration that also marks the contributions of an important subset / set of data innovation professionals and leaders around the world.
The day kicked off with a stellar keynote panel featuring data and insights leaders from Canada, the UK, Iran, and South Africa, spotlighting data literacy, AI’s evolving impact, ethical governance, green upskilling, and inclusive, globally resonant communication systems. Generation1.ca’s Founder and CEO Arundati Dandapani, along with Dr. Parves Khan, COO of Hiyacar UK, Karlien Kriegler, Co-Founder and Director of Hello Ara, Parissa Poroushani, Founder and CEO of Bazaarnegar, Iran’s first marketing research agency, and Co-Founder of IMRA (Iranian Marketing Research Association) and Dr. Derrick Gray, Chief Research and Operations Officer at Numerica, Canada, all headlined a global conversation on AI, data governance, green upskilling, and the future of inclusive innovation across continents that was much valued by attendees and jobseekers.

Some takeaways from the panel included:
AI and Ethics Must Be Localized: Global frameworks need to consider cultural, regional, and political contexts to ensure fairness and transparency in AI deployment.
Green Upskilling Is Urgent: Governments and organizations must collaborate to prioritize environmental literacy and sustainability-oriented job training.
Data Must Build Empathy that Drives Trust: To effectively serve both citizens and consumers, organizations must double down on governance, transparency, and human-centric design in data systems.
How did all this translate to jobseekers? Be curious, passionate, always learning and challenging and stretching yourself outside your comfort zones to also exercise your empathy muscle better – the most precious quality today sought after by any customer-centric organization (everyone!).
Then came the moment everyone was waiting for—the high-stakes Case Competition! Six powerhouse teams dove headfirst into two bold challenges: a social mission to reconnect diasporas to their homelands through secure civic tech, and a business mission to supercharge transparency in EV battery supply chains using blockchain—all while boosting performance and impact.

After thoughtful deliberation and cross-questioning by the jury, the winners were announced:
🏅 Gold / First Prize: Team InnovAItors – Awarded top honours for their strategic application of blockchain to improve ethical supply chains.
Team InnovAItors tackled a social impact challenge focused on diaspora political disengagement. Using the case of the fictitious Republic of Verdonia, which was facing a brain drain and declining electoral participation from its global citizens, the team proposed innovative digital voting systems and policy recommendations to “Bring Every Voice Back Home.” Their solution emphasized secure, inclusive, and mobile-first civic engagement platforms to reestablish trust, representation, and participation from diaspora communities, The team of Gowthami, Ankit, Nilufar, and Maya are students at our academic partner Humber Polytechnic.
“A first-class, technically mature proposal distinguished by robust security layering and thoughtful civic engagement tools. The team demonstrated strong design thinking and polished delivery. While further contextual validation of socio-demographic nuances within Verdonia’s diaspora would elevate relevance, this solution stood out as a strategic, scalable blueprint for global civic innovation.” Jury Feedback for the Winning Team

🥈 Silver (Tied): Team CaTRIOlysts and Team Market Lens – CaTRIOlysts impressed with their approach to enhancing diaspora political participation, while Market Lens stood out for its sustainability-focused EV battery traceability solution.
CaTRIOlysts addressed the business case on improving transparency and sustainability in electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chains. Focusing on Evolve Tech Motors, they proposed the integration of blockchain to track raw materials like cobalt from source to production, ensuring ethical sourcing, regulatory compliance, and trust among global suppliers. Their solution featured stakeholder education, IoT integration, and phased pilot projects for measurable impact. The team of Shazia, Tiffy, Abhishek, Prabal are students at Conestoga College, our academic partner.
“Thoughtful integration of stakeholder needs and consumer feedback made for a grounded and ethically aware proposal. The use of smart contracts and a phased pilot approach was practical and well-considered. While the presentation clarity could be improved, and greater justification for quantitative sampling and outcome tracking would strengthen the rigour, this was a commendable effort with strong potential.” Jury Feedback for CaTRIOlysts

Market Lens also took on the EV battery supply chain challenge, proposing their “B.E.L.T.” (Blockchain Ethics and Lifecycle Traceability) framework. Their research-driven proposal highlighted how blockchain can optimize traceability, ethical verification, and lifecycle accountability in the sourcing and production of lithium-ion batteries. They emphasized socio-economic impacts and benchmarked against industry leaders like Walmart and Unilever to demonstrate blockchain’s role in sustainability leadership. The team are students from both Concordia University in Montreal and Algonquin College in Ottawa, our academic partners.
“A well-articulated, enterprise-ready proposal with clear logic and strong external case use; simplifying blockchain complexities was a highlight. With deeper exploration of research methodology and stakeholder behaviour, this already impressive solution could be taken to the next level.” Jury Feedback for Market Lens
