It’s always a treat to bring on different types of industry professionals and spotlight the dynamic nature of leadership across sectors and the common thread that binds them to data and insights and to their key customers, clients, stakeholders and audiences.
This time we brought on Nigel Branker, CEO of Securian Canada, an accomplished immigrant professional from Trinidad who steadily rose to the top of his career ladder and kept evolving and continues to through major sectoral breakthroughs including numerous acquisitions, re-brands, bringing diverse insurance products and services to market, volunteering at various non-profits and as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, constantly staying relevant to his customers, colleagues and everyone connected to him.
In our space as more of a life insurance or health insurance player, the things that we spend time on are mortality, morbidity, if you look an environment of an aging population, the impact of COVID over the last few years, the impact on mental health: those are things we are focused on both from a product perspective and also in terms of supporting Canadians and thinking ahead of the next round of problems. So it is a challenging time in the industry, but at the same time, it gives a lot of opportunity for organizations that can be agile, and can learn and can innovate quickly, and that’s certainly what we’re setting out to be.
